My 80'S Early Fishing Beginnings...

It was in the year 1988..and i was 13 years old and was still in secondary one. I've saved my school's pocket money to buy myself a $69 dollars of a 12'ft Silstar rod from old Nordin Deep Sea shop in block 8 on Beach road. My dad then handover two of his precious Daiwa 4000c spinning reels to me. I was often at Bedok Jetty 03 times a week ...It's was such great moment for me to witnessed and learned the basic surfcast and technics by the veteran fisherman there.I was always witnessing them fighting and landed Monster fishes  like the Giant Shovelnose or the Giant Stingrays..Even, sometimes my Daiwa 4000c was stripped empty or entirely botak there...!!! I will be in still shocked for a few days and would always recalled it in my dreams. But, in one of  my surveying fishing spots in Punggol area track 22, I mananged to hook and landed a 5 to 6kg Stingray. I was fishing, facing Coney Island and the surrounding was all original/natural of mangrove swamps. The fish whacked my dead prawn with gusto and totally caught me off-guard. I was very excited and surprised to see my rod bend into a "U" shaped. The line kept coming out in a slow strong motion for about  5 minutes, non-stop. It was an unforgettable experience. A malay abang who was fishing beside me caught a very big mirror fish; Ikan Chermin or"Chio Beng". It was at  5kgs and the run was fiercer and more powerful than my earlier catch. I was also pulling the big Wat-wat there, courtesy of my dad's constant training i've had in my younger days.

This is an era when i've gently stroke some other famous surf rods brands like, Silstar Traverse Tournament X [i own one now]12'5ft, Daiwa TDPK 13ft[lime green colour], Daiwa Sealine Surf 12ft, Shakesphere Ugly Stick 12ft[logo wt 03 stars, usa made], Silstar Surf and some others. Most of the veteran fishermans at Bedok jetty will willingly let me cast their expensive old Zziplex or Century models rod. My cute sister, Alia posing with my first ever caught stingray. She's holding the Silstar rod coupled with a Daiwa spinning reel 4000c model made in japan being passed down to me from my dad.
I was constantly going fishing at this time.
Picture of me with my best friend surfcasting at Coralium [before reclaimed] in Sentosa. Behind us was the Pulau Buran Darat. Although, we encounter a lot of snags[sangkut], we were always happy fishing cos there's a lot of fish to be caught. The experience of sangkut learned by us were priceless...!!! Sometimes we managed to land Duris, a small ray and some smaller fishes, like the Parrot fish.

Some of our catches fishing in Sentosa..And picture of my 1st multiplyer reel..the Daiwa Sealine[boat model] which was only oftenly used on Bedok jetty...So, i've learned for myself....the agony of always Char Bee Hoon.on this reel..and its not easy to cast on a multiplyer...that for sure...!!!
