My Last Surfcast With Dad....

It was the year 1995. This was actually my last fishing trip with my dad. I had suggested fishing at Coralium reclaimed land in Sentosa.  We were to surfcast at the lagoon there... Upon reaching, we met two of his working friends there, who were also fishing but only on the wavebreakers. They were targetting Ikan Tokak, Todak and some other varieties of smaller fishes. When we told them that we would be fishing on the lagoon there, we were being laugh at. But, my dad was so patienced to them and taught me in many ways to be a humble person....and not to argue...

By the time we reached there, the tide was rising. I am doin my luring in the lagoon with my dad looking at me when suddenly his 8'ft Daiwa rod bended into a U shape. Upon taking the rod from his pvc-pipe rod holder, he gave a clean striked. By then, his 20lb Berkley Tornament line was peeling away with the reel SCREAMING....non-stop...He fought it and landed a 2kg Chermin or Diamond Treavlly. We were so happy and excited that we forgot to bring camera to take pictures ....

I was using my Silstar Dia-Flex 7'6ft with Abu 6500c3 baited dead prawns. The tide was going down when i noticed my 16lb Berkley Tornament line was slacked...i pumped it and the fish was ON... The Chermin gave me a good run for about 1mins till it gave up. I reeled it in and land it.

By the time we headed back to the bus-stop, we saw his two friends there. They were smiling at us while showing off their catches. One of the uncle was pointing to some few small palm sized fishes in his small icebox. The uncle even started to laugh at us saying how big our icebox was and what are we aiming to catch and how STUPID and STUBBORN we were father and son. He was refering to himself as a fishing GURU and even told us that we could learn the ropes of fishing from him. As expected, my dad smiled and agreed, thus told him that we were only fishing for fun. I remembered clearly that we never showcase our two Chermins to them...

That's the most priceless lesson i've learned from my dad...to be Humble...But, after a few days later, like all teenangers wanting to be bad boys, i ran away from home for 01 n de half years to be with bad company throughout and never realised what i've caused to my parents...Everyday, their life were being tormented because of me. Everyday, they were feeling so sad and always worried sick for me...I will never forget the tears they had for me. And, i will never forget this fishing trip with my dad throughout my entire life....
